
Jason Thomas lives in Hawthorn East with his wife, Fiona, and three children, Alexander, Sophie and Amelia
Jason was born in Wollongong, NSW and grew-up in various parts for Australia before moving to New Zealand at the age of 12. In 1989 he commenced studying at the University of Otago, Dunedin. Jason graduated with a Masters degree with Distinction in Political Philosophy in 1996 having met Fiona.
On graduation Jason became involved in politics working as a campaign strategist and advisor to senior political figures in New Zealand and then the United Kingdom.
Jason and his family moved to Melbourne in 2003, where he became a government relations advisor for AWB Limited. He then managed group public affairs for the major Australian-based pharmaceutical group Mayne before taking up the role as communications manager with Symbion.
In 2006 Jason established his own business SINCLAIR THOMAS before merging with national firm Three Plus in late 2008.
As a corporate communications and government relations specialist Jason has undertaken complex issues management and consultancy for clients. Sectors he has worked in include health, primary products, energy and financial services sectors. He also provides government relations consultancy services at the Federal and State levels across Australia.
Jason was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2005 for his efforts in initiating a Sri Lankan post-tsunami relief effort. So far Jason has delivered $2m of medical equipment to the civil war area in Sri Lanka. In 2006 he was a Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay Runner and was nominated for Boroondara City Council Citizen of the Year.
Jason is an honorary member of the Australian Medical Aid Foundation and a Director of Foundation Boroondara, a community philanthropic organisation. He is the Australian Representative for the Women’s Bank in Sri Lanka, and an ambassador for the Foundation for Co-Existence. Jason is also on the Board of The Carnegie School and amember of the Australian 39th Battalion Infantry Association.
In 2008 he took youth at risk up the Kokoda Track with the support of the Hawthorn Football Club, the Victorian Police, the YMCA and Foundation Boroondara. It is now an annual project.
This year he is developing an entrepreneurship program with the Melbourne Business School for youth at risk and has been nominated for a Churchill Fellowship.
Jason also a volunteer with the Marysville & Triangle Development Group, who were established after the Black Saturday fires in Victoria, to coordinate the recovery and reconstruction of Marysville.
